Podcasts I Listen To

An ever changing list as I add and drop podcasts from time to time. As much as I try, there's no way I can listen to every episode of every podcast I subscribe to in iTunes (yes, it's my podcast management system), so here's some staples.
  1. This American Life - an hour of stories based on a theme. High production values for a public radio show. The TV series is also worth a watch.
  2. The Sporkful - For eaters, not foodies: Dan Pashman and Mark Garrison discuss the minutia of various food and dishes, approx. 15 minutes long.
  3. Slate Culture Gabfest - slightly high brow discussion of the week's (pop) culture news.
  4. NPR's Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me! - Hilarious NPR news quiz, approx. 45 minutes
  5. Stuff You Should Know - General topics
  6. Stuff Your Mom Never Told You - Female-oriented topics
  7. Stuff You Missed in History Class
  8. Tech Stuff
  9. PopStuff
  10. The Omnom Show - Malaysian audio food podcast, hosted by John Lim and Richard Augustin, who discuss everything Malaysian food. They also interview local food entrepreneurs. Currently on BFM.
  11. Savage Lovecast - audio version of Dan Savage's sex and relationship advice column, Savage Love, with calls from the public. No it's not the same as the print version.
  12. How to Do Everything - NPR producers Ian Chillag and Mike Danforth host a "half advice show, half survival guide"; if they can't answer it themselves, they'll find a expert who can - fun under-20 minute listen.
  13. Freakonomics Radio - If you liked the Freakonomics books, you might like this.
  14. Slate Spoiler Specials - Slate.com's movie spoiler podcast, for people who have already seen the movie in question, or not...
  15. NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour - 'nuff said
  16. Apple's "Meet The.." series - recordings of events that took place in Apple stores, particularly New York and London. I like "Meet the Filmmaker" and "Meet the Author".
  17. NPR's Ask Me Another NPR's exciting new show featuring puzzles, word games and trivia played in front of a live audience. Geekier than Wait, Wait!

Recommended video podcasts - because listening to the audio does not do them any justice
  1. The 404 Podcast - Pop culture, tech and snarky commentary from the Gen-Y perspective - will make you laugh inappropriately at work, approx. run time: 30 minutes
