The Star was having a free preview screening of The Iron Lady at Midvalley last night and someone else I know had earlier mentioned wanting to see it, so what the heck. Took us an hour to finally get there and we only had time for McD dinner and bubble tea at the nearby Chatime kiosk.
I was about to give this movie a pass since I was too young when she was in power and (obviously) not British. My scant knowledge of Ms Thatcher was from reading the earlier Adrian Mole books. So I can't comment on whether Ms Streep was dead on with regards to her impersonation.
- Did a little cheer when I finally saw Anthony Head as Geoffrey Howe. It was involuntary.
- Was wondering whether Meryl Streep's actual daughter played the Margaret the younger (she didn't).
- This movie's only nominations were for Best Achievement in Makeup and also Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in the upcoming Academy Awards. I think it might get the former, because I was definitely blown away.
The way I see it, it's basically a movie about a woman who was procrastinating about clearing out her dead husband's stuff while dealing with dementia.
I thought it was just okay. Go nuts if you want to watch it, don't let me stop you.
