Actorlympics (2005 edition)

This time I didn't have to pick Elia up as she was already at Chillis celebrating someone's birthday. Also saw Ariel (hi!!) and a few celebs: Hans Isaac and Marion "Isn't she supposed to be in Perlis?" Caunter. There were also a number of Caucasians about, hoping to see a good show. Well, they weren't the only ones with high hopes.

Oh yeah, players were Gavin Yap, Ida Nerina, Harith Iskandar, Afdlin Shauki, and Reza Zainal Abidin with Edwin Sumun as host.
[Patrick and Nell Ng were out sick - what a pity]

(Well fine, so I'm a bit disappointed that Jit and Jason not there lah oh-kaay and was rather hoping that Edwin was playing instead of being timekeeper and buzzer-presser. Wonder who else was missing cos there were 6 chairs).

I tell you now my memory a bit the fuzzy, so the order of the games might be off a little.

Oh screw it - I can't get into everything cos I've lost track of the number of games they were playing for 1.5 hours. But I can tell you my only contribution was when they played Haiku - I shouted out "Cheap seats!" and Edwin was being a bit defensive (or sarcastic I wasn't too sure) cos I was in the RM47 (actually, only RM25 - STUDENT price, *wink wink*) seats and I sort of buat donno only. > P I wanted some mockery and instead they didn't, which was a good thing cos the last time it was quite bad.

They also picked out an audience member for that Alphabet Game where audience gives a situation and a letter and players have to say lines which start with the subsequent letter (which Edwin had trouble deciding between that and consequent). Good for the lass Gavin and Ida picked. But couldn't hear them half the time and also the audience have to keep prompting the next letter. Another potong steam moment.

As usual sexual innuendoes were the order of the day, knowing the minds of the Malaysian audience. When it came to that genres game (where the audience have start a scene normally and then genres given by the audience would be acted out), one of the first things heard was "porn". Our host was saying how every night also got porn one. Well, we're not there every night now, are we?

The last game (what's known as Props on Whose Line?) was really, really crappy - it took them so long to decide what to do with the given props (mop, yellow rubber gloves, yellow pail, rods - the everyday household objects which anyone have seen BEFORE) and when they finally did the audience boo-ed at Edwin's insistence that we do if we don't like it. I don't know it's cos the creativity of Malaysians decline after the age of 10 or it was because of the exhaustion of doing improv work that some of them have been doing for the last few nights.

And the scenarios that the audience gave were pretty far out - they were so funny I forgot to laugh,
(That's how bad it was) esp. when someone screamed "martians meet Planet of the Apes" or something to that effect in The Shrinking Game where the same scenario is acted out in 2, 1 and half minute durations. It was like going through the same nightmare 4 times in quick sucession. *shudder*

Conclusion: There were some funny moments but it's not that funny in the end - would've been a bit better if Jit and Jason were there lah (I think). [And Edwin was saying, "Who needs Jit Murad?"]. Audience also damn weird one.

p.s. Found out later that Craig Fong was in the audience (how come I didn't see him?) and he was the one that shouted "Finding Nemo" - which was noted by Edwin who beckoned to the crowd to cheer to the fact that he was in the house. Nothing. Then Edwin salvaged the situation by saying "Sorry dude - on with the show" or something like that. So sad. But was later amused by how Harith and Afdlin pulled off playing Dory and Marlin, respectively.
